Kenya

Although risk factors associated with neonatal mortality in Kenya are known, there is a paucity of data disaggregated by counties or projected estimates to support planning and implementation of interventions. In Kenya, D4I conducted a desk review and secondary analysis of various data sources to provide high-quality and accessible estimates of neonatal mortality in 9 counties to support planning and implementation of USAID maternal and child health interventions.

D4I also worked with the Kenya Ministry of Health (MOH) and partners to provide technical assistance for training data collectors, monitoring quality control, supporting a qualitative component, and disseminating results of the 2018-2019 Kenya Harmonized Health Facility Assessment (HHFA).

Neonatal Mortality in Kenya

D4I analyzed neonatal data from 9 counties in Kenya—Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kisumu, Kwale, Nairobi, Nakuru, Turkana, Trans-Nozia, and Vihiga—to gain a better understanding of county-level neonatal deaths to improve future interventions to reduce neonatal mortality.
