Number or percent of women who report satisfaction with their family planning provider Number or percent of women who report satisfaction with their family planning provider Definition: Number or percent of women currently using a modern contraceptive method who respond affirmatively to a question asking if they would return to their family planning (FP) provider and would refer a relative or friend to that provider. This indicator should be measured for providers who have received program support. As a percent, this indicator is calculated as: (Number of women currently using a modern contraceptive method who reported that they would return to their FP provider and would refer a relative or friend to that provider/Total number of women surveyed) x 100 Data Requirement(s): Number of women who are using modern contraception and their level of satisfaction with their FP provider This indicator can be disaggregated by age, urban/rural status, or geographic location of women. Data Source(s): Surveys Purpose: How satisfied a woman is with her FP provider impacts a woman’s contraceptive use. A positive client-provider interaction is a predictor of behavior change – in this case, use of or continued use of a modern contraceptive method. This is a proxy indicator for assessing quality of the client-provider interaction, which would include the woman feeling the provider respected her privacy and decisions, was well-informed about her contraceptive options, and was counselled on what FP methods best suit her reproductive needs and preferences. Issue(s): This indicator does not measure actual quality of FP providers’ services, only the opinions of clients that FP providers are providing good services. Satisfaction with a health provider can be highly subjective, including aspects that may be very important to one client and not at all important to another.
