D4I has worked closely with the Maternal Mortality Estimation Inter-agency Group (MMEIG) on expanding the number of census estimates. D4I is collaborating with the US Census Bureau and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in updating maternal mortality estimation guidance and providing technical assistance to countries in how to use census to provide maternal mortality estimates through the inclusion of pregnancy-related questions, implement best practices in data collection and use, and issues to consider and potential problems using census data. In Mozambique, D4I supported the National Institute of Statistics (INE). D4I triangulated maternal mortality ratio estimates and the Countrywide Mortality Surveillance for Action (COMSA) data in Mozambique.
