Behavioral Interventions for the Use of Evaluation Findings D4I held a webinar on November 1, 2022, discussing behavioral interventions for the use of evaluation findings. D4I’s Agata Slota, Cassandra Ake, and Lucinda Jones led the webinar. A recent D4I study applied a behavioral perspective to better understand barriers and enablers to using evaluation findings in USAID’s global health programming. The team then identified promising strategies that incorporate insights from the behavioral sciences. For example, collaboration between evaluators and evidence users is important, but not all interactions will lead to increased evidence use; structured, well-planned interactions with trust-building components will be more effective. Increasing motivation to use findings is important but needs to be accompanied by greater opportunities to use findings. And the use of evaluation findings can be boosted through efforts to encourage staff to see themselves as evidence users. She is a Behavior Change, Research and Communications Advisor at Palladium, applying insights from behavioral science and strategic communications on projects that span sectors and geographies. Agata has master’s degrees in behavioral science and in international affairs. Cassandra Ake has focused on the review of barriers and enablers to evidence use that is presented in the D4I Behavioral Interventions for the Use of Evaluation Findings study. She is a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Senior Associate at Palladium, and works on multiple D4I activities and MEL initiatives. Cassandra completed her master’s degree in international development policy, with a strong econometrics focus. Lucinda Jones has developed a number of the strategies proposed by the D4I Behavioral Interventions for the Use of Evaluation Findings activity. She is a Health Associate at Palladium and works across a variety of projects, focusing on health and behaviour change. Lucinda’s bachelor’s degree is in psychological and behavioral sciences, and her master’s degree is in development studies.
